New Payments Platform: Functionality and Access

In November 2018, we were pleased to make a submission to the RBA consultation, New Payments Platform, Functionality and Access.

The RBA sought views on issues relating to the functionality of, and access to, the NPP. Input and assistance is being provided by the ACCC.

AusPayNet played a key role in the creation of the New Payments Platform (NPP), establishing NPP Australia Ltd as a separate corporate entity in late 2014 to oversee the build and operation of the platform.

Our submission highlights NPP is still in a growth phase following its launch in February 2018.  We also note that the number of participants connecting to the platform is on the rise, and it’s important to let the NPP mature and show the market that it promotes access and competition.

The RBA has indicated that it will endeavour to meet with stakeholders that make submissions, and may conduct an industry roundtable, subject to stakeholder interest.
